Thailand Motorcycle Touring FAQ

Many nationalities can enter Thailand visa-free for up to 45 days. If you need a visa, you can apply for a tourist visa in advance at a Thai embassy or consulate. You can also apply to extend your stay once in the country. Always check the laws regarding your specific nationality before traveling.
Yes, you need an International Driving Permit (IDP) to drive in Thailand. The country recognizes both the 1949 Geneva Convention and the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic. This means you can use either version of the IDP. These permits serve as an official translation of your national driver’s license into multiple languages, which helps local authorities understand your credentials.

It’s important to carry both your IDP and your national driver’s license while riding, as rental agencies and law enforcement may request to see them. Having the correct IDP ensures that your license is properly recognized and helps you comply with local driving regulations.
The ideal time for motorcycle tours in Thailand is from November to February. This period is the cool dry season, with comfortable temperatures ranging from 20°C to 30°C (68°F to 86°F) and minimal rainfall.

The hot season, from March to May, can be very hot and humid, while the rainy season, from June to October, brings frequent heavy showers and high humidity, which can affect road conditions.
Internet access is good in Thailand, with Wi-Fi widely available in hotels, cafes, and restaurants. Mobile data SIM cards are affordable and easy to come by, and coverage is generally very good.
In Thailand, English is widely spoken in tourist destinations like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket, especially in hotels, restaurants, and tourist services. However, in rural areas, English is less commonly spoken, and Thai is the primary language. In cities and tourist areas, you can generally communicate in English with ease.
Cash is commonly used in Thailand, especially for small purchases and in rural areas. The Thai Baht (THB) is the local currency. Credit and debit cards are accepted in many hotels, restaurants, and shops in cities like Bangkok and Chiang Mai. ATMs are widespread in urban areas, so carrying cash for most transactions is advisable.
Road rules and etiquette in Thailand may differ from what you’re used to. It might take some time to adjust, so exercise extra caution and stay alert to ensure a safe ride.
We offer a huge range of motorcycles in Thailand, everything from large scooters to street bikes, tourers and dual-sports, available for pickup in Chiang Mai. Damage waiver and local motorcycle tour guide can be added as optional extras.
