Begin your adventure by exploring Chakdara Fort, an awesome border fort built by the British in the late 19th Century. From there you’ll head north over the Swat River and on to the town of Timegara. Timegara is home to a huge number of excavated Indo-Aryan graves, said to be up to 4,000 years old.

Cross the Lowari mountain pass on your way to the mountainous region of Chitral—one of the highest on the planet. This is one of our favourite parts of the country. Chitral is home to the highest peak of the forest and glacier covered Hindu Kush mountain range.

The city of Chitral is situated in Chitral Gol National Park, which boasts some fun trails and exceptional mountain vistas. There are also some fascinating graves there, left over by the Bronze Age Indus Valley civilization, and a well-maintained museum too.

Follow the river through the massive Chitral Valley, close to the Afghanistan border. There are some cool bridges in the area, as well as massive mountains, many of which are more than 7,000 metres high. Chitral Fort, situated by the river, is also worth checking out as you continue north.

Like Lowari, Shandur, dubbed ‘the Roof of the World’, is one of Pakistan’s four great mountain passes. Cross it as you ride east and into the high mountain valley of Yasin.

Today’s destination is the Hunza Valley. Believed to be the inspiration for the mythical valley of Shangri-La in James Hilton’s 1933 novel, Lost Horizon, the views of the surrounding mountains as you ride alongside the Gilgit River towards it are spectacular.

Arguably the most fascinating exploration day of the adventure, today you’ll have the opportunity to visit Baltit Fort and the bustling Karimabad Bazaar, as well as one of the largest glaciers in the world outside the polar region.

Completed in 1978, the Karakoram Highway was built in partnership with China in order to connect northern Pakistan with the Silk Road. Follow it northwest past the gorgeous Attabad Lake and down into Shimshal Valley, one of Pakistan’s remotest and most naturally beautiful areas.

As you ride south again on your way down to Gilgit, you’ll be met with awesome views of the Karakoram mountains. Home to K2, the world’s second highest mountain, this is the range that form’s much of Pakistan’s natural border with China.

We keep following the Gilgit River to the meeting point of our mighty 3: Hindu Kush, Karakoram and Himalaya. Then, we follow the Indus River being careful of the more heavily trafficked roads as we pass through Skardu on to the Shigar Valley.

This is the final exploration day of the adventure, and you’ll be staying in a fantastic hotel on the western edge of the Karakorams. There’s an ancient Tibetan-Islamic mosque in the area with a great museum inside, as well as some hot springs and some awesome mountain viewpoints.

From Shigar, ride west through Deosai National Park on your way to Astore Valley. Gorgeous and highly biodiverse, the Deosai Plains are situated at an average elevation of more than 4,000 kilometres above sea level, making this the second highest plateau in the world.

Here, the Karakoram Highway runs alongside the Indus River through the awesome Kaghan Valley. Follow it west over one of the country’s steepest mountain passes, Babusar, and on to Naran. Famous for its bazaar and fantastic location, Naran is probably our favourite town in Pakistan.

The mountains as you head south towards Nathia Gali become less rocky and more densely forested. The town itself is popular, not just because of its proximity to Islamabad but because of its climate and the verdant national park surrounding it.

Before heading back to Islamabad in time for dinner, you’ll have the opportunity to check out Ayubia National Park, right beside Nathia Gali. The amount of wildlife there is impressive, and it’s the perfect place for some light hiking.

Inclusions X Extras

Each of our guides has years of experience running motorcycle tours and is an expert on the local area.

All speak English and the local language, and guides who can speak other languages are sometimes available on request.

The cost of hiring your motorcycle is included in that of the tour. All running expenses, including fuel, are included as well.

All meals are provided, as are drinks and snacks along the way.

You’ll dine sometimes in your accommodation, sometimes at quality local restaurants.

Let us know in advance of any preferences or dietary requirements and we are happy to cater for these.

Accommodation is minimum 3-star quality.

Standard is a twin share room but on occasion (due to remote location) we will share one large, dorm-type room: in a stilt house or a yurt, for example.

All locations have been scouted beforehand and checked for cleanliness and good service.

Conditions in many of our destinations, in Asia, for example, may be really different from your home country.

Rain can be heavy, and start falling at a moment’s notice.

We’ll sort you out with a waterproof rain poncho and overtrousers where necessary.

We offer twin-share accommodation as standard. In most locations, though, we can arrange single occupancy if you prefer.

This comes at a small surcharge, but in most tour destinations is quite reasonable.

While most riders prefer to bring their own gear, we do have a limited range of extra gear (boots, gloves, armour and helmets, for example) in most of our tour destinations.

Naturally, whether or not we’ll be able to supply you with gear depends on size and availability.

We are happy to provide suggestions on pre and post-tour bookings in accommodation: knowing the area well, we know the best places to stay at all price points.

We can even book for you as an added extra without any service fee, sometimes even at a discount.
